Phonics Sounds for Sounding Out and Blending

This is not the scheme that we use at St Nicolas but it is a really informative video to show how to say the sounds correctly to help with confident blending. Please make sure your child is using sounds to read words and not letter names.

Phonics games!

These phonics games are mainly focused on sounding out and blending real words and 'alien' words. Encourage your child to sound out all words and help them to choose whether it is a real or a fake word.

Watch and listen to stories on the computer or tablet!

I love sharing all sorts of stories with the children and seeing them and hearing them from different sources and voices helps to expand the children's experiences of books.

The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers

Please don't let your child watch this video unsupervised as it is uploaded via youtube. This is the first story we will be focusing on in English this half term.
